About Waterhold

Ross O'Halloran owns and runs Waterhold. It started in 2009 with a single batch of about 20 tonnes.

From there, the business grew substantially. At its largest, Waterhold was processing more than 320,000 tonnes of material a year, with operations running from Murray Bridge to Wagga, Tamworth and Tasmania.

Family became more important, so Ross made the deliberate choice to bring Waterhold's focus back closer to home. Waterhold now concentrates on the Murraylands, Mallee & South East.

Waterhold still does on-farm and on-site composting, but a large part of the business today is composting and screening manures. We process an estimated 60,000 tonnes a year, made ready for sale across a number of sites in South Australia.

Since 2009, Waterhold has made compost from all sorts of by-products, sourced from farm pack sheds, industrial processing plants and other facilities.

A lot of what we handle was once considered an unusable waste stream. We turn it into an organic product fit for use in vegetable crops and other farming applications. It's hands-on work, and we're committed to producing a high-quality product.

The name Waterhold comes from what good compost does to soil: it increases the soil's water-holding capacity. Quality compost is also recognised for improving soil health and structure, supporting greater disease resistance, and reducing the need for synthetic fertilisers and chemicals when it's produced, applied and managed correctly.

When you call or email, you speak with Ross directly. He will ask about your materials, site or farm layout, and what you want the compost for. If it looks workable, the next step is usually a site visit.

Waterhold is registered as Waterhold Pty Ltd (ABN 45 137 526 697). Invoices, insurance and compliance sit behind the business. On the ground, it is Ross and his equipment doing the batch work.
